Masiphumelele 2020
In Masiphumelele, an underprivileged community about 40km south of Cape Town City, a fire broke out in the densely populated informal community in November 2020 and destroyed around 1 300 shacks. Over 5 000 people lost their livelihood in a few days and were dependent on the help of others in this vulnerable and destitute situation.
A local non-profit association organized the collection and distribution of donations and food, which flowed in from all over the city. The Spalke family, our local missionaries, and the men of the Hope Men group were able to make a small contribution to alleviating this need by providing transport vehicles, purchasing mattresses and providing practical help.
